Beta Version 0.9 - Updates and Fixes
The newest version of Balloon Battle has many fixes and a few updates worth noting, so lets jump in and see what's changed!
UPDATES TO GAMEPLAY:
- Fixed fire enemy flames to originate from flamethrower below enemy. Also updated spread of fire stream to a new format. Rather than a single stream with a few particles spreading outwards, the new flame bosses will spray randomly towards the player. Additionally, these bosses bounce up and down a little bit less and a little bit slower to compensate for their incredibly high health and the intensity of their damage.
- Added audio cues for player and enemies taking damage from bullets and missiles to confirm the target was hit. The audio is different for bullets and missiles, depending on what hits the player or enemy.
- Added visual cues to the player and enemies for taking damage from missiles and bullets. Again, the visual indicators are different for bullets and missiles depending on what hits the player or enemy.
- Slowed the speed at which bosses will flee if their level is over. This really only affects the first three bosses at the moment, but I had noticed they seemed to fly at supersonic speeds out of the level. This has been reduced to a rate which is still quick, but not so abrupt that it seems the enemy blimp should vaporize from the friction of the air.
- Gameplay will now take you through level 50. The player will face two bosses simultaneously on levels 45 and 50.
UPDATES TO GUI:
- Fixed Missile Ammo Text to deactivate with the rest of the HUD upon player death.
- Fixed issue with the Extra Life Icon still showing when game is paused.
- Updated Pause Menu for legibility.
- Corrected pause instructions under the Start Button, as it is now possible for the player to use either Shift key to pause the game.
- Corrected the spelling of "Missiles" in more places than I prefer to admit.
- Edited Main Menu Music to start immediately on launch.
That's all for now, but there's more to come! Future updates will continue as we work up to 100 full levels of gameplay. These will include new bosses, new mechanics, and maybe other stuff I haven't thought of yet. Still, I hope you enjoy these updates, and (as always) feel free to send me feedback or suggestions.
